What is Invisalign?
Invisalign straightens your teeth or corrects your bite with invisible aligners made from flexible, clear BPA-free plastic, making them an aesthetically appealing alternative to traditional metal braces. Since the aligners are clear, they’re invisible, allowing you to smile more confidently knowing you don’t have rubber bands, wires, or metal in your mouth.
There are multiple benefits to having Invisalign, such as:
- Fewer food restrictions
- Easier to care for than braces
- Brushing and flossing is easier
- Designed for convenience and comfort
- Freedom to play sports and musical instruments
If you find Invisalign to be an attractive option, Dr. Teodoro at The Dental Center of Hercules recommends you schedule a consultation with her to evaluate whether Invisalign is the right choice for you.
During this consultation, Dr. Teodoro assesses your aesthetic goals and the current state of your teeth since Invisalign is limited in its issues it can correct in comparison to braces. Invisalign’s main function is to gently move your teeth and straighten them.
What is the process of getting Invisalign like?
Once Dr. Teodoro determines Invisalign is the right treatment for you, her team first takes impressions of your teeth. Dr. Teodoro and her team use these impressions to create your Invisalign aligners.
Once your aligners are made, you come back to The Dental Center of Hercules to pick them up. While in the office, Dr. Teodoro gives you more detailed instructions on how to make the most out of your Invisalign treatment.
It’s important to keep your aligners in your mouth for 20-22 hours each day to ensure your teeth shift into the correct position. Approximately every two weeks, you replace your aligners with a new set making your teeth a little straighter than the last.
While the treatment length varies from person to person, the average tends to be between 9-15 months.
How is Invisalign different than traditional metal braces?
While Invisalign and metal braces both provide you with the same result of a million-dollar smile and better oral health, there are some differences.
With traditional braces, you’ll have brackets, wires, and rubber bands in your mouth. These pieces can break off and cause your gums or lips to bleed. Since Invisalign is clear aligners, you won’t experience them breaking and causing irritation to your gums or lips. In addition, your aligners are removable providing you the convenience to take them off while you brush your teeth and eat.
By using Invisalign to straighten your teeth, you’ll have an invisible and aesthetically pleasing alternative to metal braces. Call The Dental Center of Hercules today or schedule your appointment online.
