3 Benefits of CEREC® Same-Day Restorations

3 Benefits of CEREC® Same-Day Restorations

Whether you just had a root canal or you need a dental bridge to replace a missing tooth, you will need a crown. Dental crowns, sometimes called caps, are a type of restoration that support the form and function of your mouth. They’re also versatile and aesthetically pleasing. However, if you opt for a traditional restoration, they can take weeks to make 一 and prolong your treatment timeline in the process.

Dr. Lovely Manlapaz Teodoro and the team offer Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC®) same-day restorations here at The Dental Center of Hercules. These restorations are designed, fabricated, and secured in your mouth all in the same appointment.

Below, we dive into three benefits of same-day restorations.

3 benefits of CEREC same-day restorations

Dental crowns 一 regardless of the type of crown or method used to fabricate the crown 一 provide many benefits. They can:

While this is true of all crowns, CEREC same-day restorations provide three additional benefits on top of these. CEREC same-day crowns benefits include:

No waiting

Traditional crowns require at least two appointments. During your first appointment, impressions are taken and your temporary crown is placed. It can take several weeks for the lab to manufacture your crown and then send it back to us. This time can add up, especially if there are any mail delays. Additionally, driving back to our office, taking time off of work, and finding time in your schedule for additional appointments can add to the timeline for your crown.

With CEREC same-day crowns, there’s no need for multiple trips to our office. There’s no waiting around for third-party labs to create your crown. You leave our office the same day with a brand new crown.

No temporary crown

Because you don’t need to wait for the lab to mail back your permanent crown, you won’t need a temporary crown. Temporary crowns aren’t designed to last for the long term, so many people find that they don’t fit quite perfectly. They may cause pain or feel uncomfortable when you bite down. Same-crowns are designed for the long term so they eliminate the hassle of temporary crowns.

Accurate restorations with more tooth preservation

Just because CEREC crowns are created quickly doesn’t mean you’ll have to sacrifice any quality. After Dr. Teodoro takes impressions of your tooth, we start designing your dental crown right here in our Hercules, California, office using computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) software. Once your crown is designed, a milling machine sculpts your new tooth crown from a block of ceramic.

Thanks to the precision of CAD/CAM software and the milling technology, Dr. Teodoro doesn’t have to shave as much of your natural tooth to make room for your crown. This means that same-day restorations enable you to preserve more of your natural tooth than a traditional crown.

What happens after your crown is made?

After your same-day restoration is ready, Dr. Teodoro cements your restoration in place. Whether you need a single crown or a crown as part of a dental bridge, our team ensures that you have everything you need to head home and take care of your new crown.
